Temasek Polytechnic, Wednesday, March 24, 2010 - Oon Shui Kun collasped at the last 200m from the finishing line of the 51st National Inter-school Cross Country Championships, missing out on the chance of clinching the A-Division Champion or finishing 1st runner-up, close behind Lim Zhi Ming of Raffles Institution with a time of 15:21. It was really a depressing moment, after all his efforts vanished before him. However, Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Monday, April 5, 2010 - he bounced back, claiming 3rd Placing in the A-Division 5000m race (17:03) of the 51st National Inter-school Track and Field Championships despite the fact that he had to represent Hwa Chong Institution in the National Inter-school Canoeing Championships the following day, which the Canoeing Team emerged as Champions.
Oon Shui Kun joined the Cross Country Team in late November with the intention of helping the Team to bring glory to the school. His first race was the NIKE 5km Time Trial held at Macritche Reservoir in early December where he came in 4th Placing with a time of 18:30. He also took part in the Singapore Press Holdings 4 X 800m relay which he did a 02:08 for his time split. He continued to train hard till early of January where his efforts started to pay off as his improvements were magnificant during the workouts and the time trials. Almost once, he managed to hit a sub 15:00 for the Cross Country route under non-sunny conditions which he ran solo without the help of anyone.
In spite of his lack of experience, Oon Shui Kun still managed to break his limits and pose a threat to all of the best runners in the A - Division. He showed determination, aggression and courage and was humble at all times -
The Stong-willed Runner. In the years to come, I believe that
Oon Shui kun with much experience will be able to establish himself as one of the top runners in Singapore under the guidance of Mr Rameshon.
